Coach: Darren Wandy
The YRHS Archery Team meets for practices every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:30 - 8:30. As well as every Wednesday and Friday after school from 3:30 - 5:00. YRHS Archers Perform Well on World Stage The Yorkton Regional High School Archery team recently participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program, 1st ever World Championships, which were held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The YRHS team were among 600 plus archers who participated at the event. “The event was the first of its kind and open to all countries that are involved in the NASP program” says Head Coach Darren Wandy. The YRHS sent a group of 12 shooters, and a group of four shooters from Melfort made the trip to the World event representing Canada. “It was a real honour for the kids to represent Canada. It will be something that the kids will remember for a very long time” says Wandy.
We also had many donations given to us. A couple of our major contributors were the World of White Tail, Dairy Queen of Yorkton and the Yorkton Kinsmen.Other sponsors include Bird Dog Archery, Grenfell Wildlife Federation, Cornerstone Credit Union, Farrell Agencies, Bailey’s Funeral Home, Grain Millers of Canada, The National Archery in the Schools Program, Dream Cabinets, the Yorkton Regional High School and the Good Spirit School Division. The YRHS Archery Team would like to extend a huge thank-you to all the sponsors of their trip. The archery team will now start to get ready for the next stage of the season. The YRHS will have their home shoot in early spring, as well host the Saskatchewan NASP Provincial Championships. “We were just told of the news of hosting the Provincial Tournament. We are very excited about the event and look forward to it.” The YRHS club is also looking at to a return trip to the Nationals held in Louisville, Kentucky. “We are hoping that sometime down the road that other schools will start hosting their own home tournaments, and Canada hosting our own National Championships. The only thing holding back the National event currently is a lack of programs starting in other provinces. However with the popularity of the program, more and more provinces are looking into the program.” Saskatchewan NASP Provincial Championships
