Volunteens

Volunteens is a program that consists of grades 9 to 12 students from area high schools who volunteer at the hospital and nursing home. The volunteens offer their assistance on many wards, such as: Pediatrics, Medicine Surgery, Emergency, Maternity, Intensive Care, X-Ray, and Hemodialysis. There has been an increase in volunteens over the last few years so the program expanded to the nursing home.

Volunteens runs from October to May. There are many tasks that are done by the volunteens as well as visiting with residents. Many of the staff and residents depend on the volunteens who come every day. It can be a very rewarding experience. If you are thinking about a career in health care, this program can give you an in-depth look at the field.

There are only 60 spots open, so space is limited. If you would like any additional information, please contact Ms. Stolz in Student Services. Drop by Student Services to sign up for the information meeting.

Note: An update was received from Suzette Szumutku, Director of Volunteer Resources with the Sunrise Health Region.  The Volunteens program is being reviewed in order to make future improvements.  Ms. Szumutko hopes to have the improved program up and running by Semester II.

Keep checking the website and listening to announcements for future information about the Volunteens program.
