ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Pockets Yorkton Regional High School Female Athlete of the Month for November is Dina Lazurko.  Dina is a Grade 12 student.  She has been involved in many activities throughout her years attending the YRHS.  She played basketball, badminton, curling, and volleyball in Grade 9.  Since Grade 9, Dina has continued to be in volleyball and curling.  She is in archery for the third year since it has started.  Dina attended provincials where she placed 3rd, nationals in Kentucky, and worlds in Disney World where she placed 29th out of 81 in the high school girl’s category.  Dina is also in the SRC as the social director.  Congratulations Dina!

The Pockets Yorkton Regional High School Male Athlete of the Month for November is Blayze Tkachuk.  Blayze is a Grade 12 student at the Yorkton Regional High School and has been on the cross country and track teams.  He has always placed well individually and on relay teams.  Blayze has also been on the boy’s soccer team for the last four years, going to two provincial tournaments.  Outside of school, he trains with the Yorkton Legion Track Club.  His favourite runs are long distance:  10 km, ½ marathon, and this fall he tried his first full marathon in Regina.  He won a silver medal, second in his age class with a time of 3 hours 18 minutes and 37 seconds.  Blayze has also played on recreational and competitive soccer teams, and currently refs community soccer. In the past, he raced with the Asessippi ski team for three years and last year achieved his Level 1 Ski Instructors course.  He has taught beginners to ski and plans to continue in the education field at the University of Regina.  Congratulations Blayze!
